Don't Quit Your Day Job...

Writer: authorbetseykauthorbetseyk

Uh... too late.

Yeah, I did it. I quit my day job. Not because I didn't love it, but because we're moving out of Oklahoma to help care for my mother-in-law in Arkansas. I will soon be transitioning from being a Safety Professional who writes on the side, to a Writer who sometimes does a little safety on the side. It's a daunting thought, especially when the first rule of becoming an author is "DON'T QUIT YOUR DAY JOB".

It isn't easy to quit your job, pack up your house, move your 20-year-old to her own place, and haul everything you have left five-and-a-half hours to the east, especially when you're going from a five-bedroom house to a two-bedroom (and an office) size house. Oh, and in the middle of all that, you get to attend your two biggest events of the year.

Two weeks ago I was in Rock Island, Illinois for a paracon and I got to participate in a VIP paranormal investigation with several well-known investigators. Tomorrow I will be at the Stillwater Public Library's Lexicon, where there could be thousands of participants coming through to see the comic books, talk paranormal, books, fantasy, role playing, cosplay, Star Trek, Star Wars, gaming and all things fun and exciting.

Oh, and the Bookfest Awards are being announced tomorrow, too. This year, The Lost Templar (Book 5) has been entered. FINGERS CROSSED!

My mom always said she was never busier than she was after she retired, but I'm trying to focus on the end game. Once we get settled in Arkansas, I've got a couple of projects already in the works I can return my attention to.

This is where I'd like to play the music clip that goes, "Can we skip to the good part?", put my palm over the camera and magically be sitting in my new writing office, cranking out another best seller.

I hope the saying is true, good things come to those who work their butts off for it.

See you at Lexicon tomorrow!!! Don't miss it! LexiCon 2024 | Stillwater, Ok!
